Inserting a multimedia component (Sound or Video)

Multimedia components, such as, sound, graphics, and video can enhance your PowerPoint presentations. However, it is important to remember to use multimedia sparingly. Sound, graphics, and video files can be millions of bytes in size. This has the effect of slowing down your presentation.

You will insert a sound file in your presentation.

1. Open your presentation in Slide View.
2. Choose Insert/Movies and Sounds/Sound from File....



The Insert Sound Dialog Box opens.

3. Select a sound file you wish to insert.
4. Press OK.

Now the sound (or video) object is "embedded" on the slide and its icon is visible.
When you get to this slide during your slide presentation and click the sound icon, the sound will play.

Setting when you want the sound or video to play.

You use the Animation Settings command to tell PowerPoint how and when embedded movies and sounds should be played.
1. Display the slide that contains the movie or sound object.
2. Select the object's icon.
   (In this case, select the sound icon.)
   
3. Right-click on the icon.
4. Select Custom Animation.
5. The Custom Animation dialog box appears.
6. Select the Timing Tab.
1. Select Animate.
2. Select Automatically after 2 seconds.
7. Select the Play Settings Tab.
1. Select Continue Slide Show.
2. Select after 3 slides.
3. Select the Hide While Not Playing check box if you don't want the object to appear during a slide show.
8. Choose OK.
