The computer mouse is the rounded plastic item with a cord that looks like a "mouse" tail. You use the mouse to run programs (among other things).
You control almost everything in Windows using the mouse. The three mouse activities you must master are:
Clicking |
Pressing and releasing the LEFT mouse button |
Double-clicking |
Pressing and releasing the mouse button twice in rapid succession. You frequently double-click an icon to activate a program. |
Dragging and dropping |
Put the mouse pointer over an object and hold down the left mouse button. As you move the mouse, the object moves across the screen. When the object reaches its destination, release the mouse button. |
The mouse "arrow" or "pointer" moves across the screen as you move the mouse on the mouse pad or desktop. When the mouse "pointer" is on top of the icon for the program you want to run, you "double-click" the left mouse button. (The right mouse button has many uses which we will explore later.)
é |
Use this mouse "pointer" to move around the screen. |
+ |

Ö |

B |
This symbol appears when you have selected the window for re-sizing or moving. Press esc to cancel this action. If you wish to move or re-size the window, move the mouse or use the cursor-control keys (arrow keys) on the keyboard. |
Æ |
Something not allowed by Windows. For example, you might be dragging something where it is not supposed to go. |
