Adding Transitions and Animation Effects

Objectives:

  1. Learn to add transitions from slide to slide in a presentation. (Method 1)
  2. Learn to add transitions from slide to slide in a presentation. (Method 2)
  3. Learn to use animation effects to make a slide presentation more dynamic.

Transitions are the visual special effects you see when you go from one slide to the next in an electronic slide show. You have lots of choices available. Here’s how you set up transitions.

Adding transitions to your slide show. (Method 1)

  1. Click the Slide Sorter button on the lower left side of the document window.The Slide Sorter button is the middle button with four tiny windows.

    Working in Slide Sorter view lets you set transitions for all of your slides without changing views.

     

  2. Select the slide to apply transition to.
  3. Choose Slide Show / Slide Transition. The Transition dialog box appears. 
  4. In the Effect box, select the transition you want.The transition you select is applied to the picture in the preview box so you can see the effect.
    1. Click the picture to watch the transition again.

     

  5. Choose the speed of the transition by selecting the Slow, Medium, or Fast option button.The speed is applied to the picture in the preview box.
  6. Choose OK-or-

  7. Changing to Slide Sorter view
  8. Selecting an effect in the Transition Effects box on the Slide Sorter toolbar. (See below.) 
  9. Select a transition effect from the drop-down list.

Adding animation effects to your slide show.

Animation Effects allow your presentation to be created object by object. For example, on your agenda slide, the individual agenda items, Introductions, Fund Raising, Awards, can enter the slide one at a time (animation effect).

  1. Change to Slide Sorter view.
  2. Select the slide to apply the animation effect to.
  3. Select an animation effect in the Effects box on the Slide Sorter toolbar. (See below.) 
  4. Select a animation effect from the drop-down list. 
  5. When you run your slide presentation, the text objects on the slide selected will “animated”.
